How To Repair A William 3 Pinball Driver Board

Perfectly repairable.

IMO, if y'all want to acquire to solder, find something 'junk' and larn how to do soldering on that. Effort to remove a part cleanly, and reinstall information technology cleanly. Acquire what happens if you lot exit the iron practical too long, and what happens if you don't leave information technology applied long enough. Practise until your work looks really skilful. Make clean upwardly your flux residue so someone tin can't tell you've been working on the board. Effort removing a component, and so reinstalling that same component. Or, removing a component, and replacing information technology with another component. Y'all tin get packs of a agglomeration of resistors at your local radio shack (assuming y'all *still have* a local radio shack) for merely a few dollars.

Forth with learning to solder, learn to employ a multimeter. Check resistors. Cheque diodes. Check *voltage* in your game, both Air-conditioning and DC.

Learn to read datasheets. Get a logic probe. Effort to understand *how* a circuit works - it'll brand it a lot easier to troubleshoot problems.

Finding something junk sounds easier than it is, anymore. Very fiddling made anymore, or in years, is as repairable as something was, say 30 years agone.

Visit your local austerity shop and ask if they accept any OLD broken VCRs, or something of the like. Something *old* and likely heavy. Won't be as easy as you think Simply with a little luck, you lot'll detect something without too much problem.

This may audio daunting, or expensive - and it *can* be both - but take babe steps. Don't spend a lot of money on *anything* until yous decide if it is (or could peradventure be) for yous. If you offset out, have interest, and success, build on it a little. Many of us have hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars worth of tools in our workshop. We didn't get out and buy them all at once!

If you lot don't accept success at first, you don't accept to give up. Ask for help. There are some incredible technicians hither on pinside who are willing to help. Be patient - if y'all inquire for help, and don't get a response immediately, expect 24 hours and crash-land your mail. Perhaps nobody with ideas saw information technology. Provide as much particular every bit you can - a game name, what the problem is (doesn't work isn't good - lower left flipper doesn't flip at all *is* good), what you've tried, and what the results were.

Don't accept whatsoever ane pinsider'south suggestions as gospel - we all misunderstand sometimes, make mistakes, etc.

If yous decide information technology'southward not for you, it'due south OK. Inquire someone for a repair reference.

I've been doing what I practise for over 10 years, and I like to think I still larn something every day.
