How To Repair Broken Clay Pipe

  1. It ideally needs to exist replaced.

    Is stack pipe cast iron.

Sometime you can cut out harm dirt pipe with grinder & used a piece of plastic soil pipe with flex seal couplers to make a repair.
But, in your case infinite is tight, plus you have that block of concrete effectually piping, which things even more harder to access.

  2. Cut pipe on red lines, might demand to might cut out larger section to give you some jerk room.

  3. Hi there, thanks for the reply, yes the stack is cast iron, so ideally I would have to dig back abroad from house and cutting the pipe then put a join in? Is a repair to the crack itself not feasable? My promise was to excavate (carefully) effectually the whole collar around make certain the only crack was at the top and and then make full/repair the crack and encase the joint in a suitable concrete or is this unsuitable? I dont desire to take any chances as it'due south a soil pipe?
    Cheers
  4. Might be possible with GRP or some other suitable product, but I've establish it so fissure somewhere else in the pipe.
Also digging out might also crusade residuum of pipe to break.
  5. Best to cut it out as suggested. However if the physical surrounding the croaky area is fairly crumbly you could try carefully chipping abroad with a lump hammer and half inch cold chisel, then make up a box and bandage a small block around the piping with a mix of 3 and i sharp sand to cement. Have done this successfully on occasion, merely brand sure the 'joint' is well supported/stabilised
  6. Thanks guys,
If I was to cutting the pipe would I non exist able to get out the 'insert' part of pipe (that which goes into the neckband) intact and just remove the neckband and part of the pipe? Sad for poor terminology! The pipe that come out of the bottom of the physical cake at a 90 degree angle seems too short to cut abroad?

  7. It is very difficult working from a photo & not seeing the actual pipe.

Just, looking at your second photo, the penny dropped:oops:,was besides early on,demand coffee to role.:)

You are right, forgot to allow for the pipe insert into bell finish, cutting on furthest white line should requite yous plenty room for repair.

Possible might have to cut even further back & use a shallow bend (you can get adjustable bends) to allow you to get perfect alignment, all depend on pipe & it's angle coming from physical block.

  8. Seal with silicone, encompass with concrete, forget about it and get on with patio.
  9. That would be my reply, Isitreally, dig around the cracked surface area, seal with silicone and and so apply it for a few days to make sure there's no leaks and so physical the whole area in.
  10. Temporary bodge.:)

Onetime school way may taken longer, just you lot know information technology unlikely leak.

  11. It'll inappreciably be temporary if it's encased in concrete!
  12. Stixall FTW! :D
  13. Clear out the whole area of mud/dirt ... spray the whole lot downwards with a hose, getting the internals of the crack as clean equally possible ... let it dry ... smear some sticks-like-**** or something similar into the crack ... worry about it in the extremely unlikely event that it e'er poses a problem.
Information technology'southward non a trouble at present, so is fifty-fifty less likely to be a problem in the future.
The but risk it presents now is that roots might find their way into the piping, but if you seal information technology off well using above method, that'southward extremely unlikely to happen.
  14. I tin can see you live and work in the "real globe" Rogerk!
  15. Hi

I'm so glad I came across this mail service. I did a like thing. I'g currently earthworks a swimming. However I've just hit a half-dozen inch pigsty into a clay pelting/ storm pipe. Would I need to use flexiseals and pvc pipe or can I comprehend the hole with hard bendy plastic & pond mastic ?
I'g concerned about cracking it more if I endeavor to dig circular it.
Thank you for any advice in advance.

  18. Ideally I would say needs to be cut out and replaced unfortunately. A patch would work every bit a temporary measure out but is a flake of a bodge as a permanent job
